Welcome to Winchelsea Primary school.

Winchelsea Primary School is located in the township midway between Geelong and Colac on the Princes Highway.  The school celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2003 and remains the only school to service Winchelsea and the surrounding district.  The buildings and grounds offer a range of resources to support the curriculum.  These include a gymnasium shared with the community, a well equipped music room, a library, language centre, resource room, art room and a community room, withdrawal rooms in addition to teaching and administration areas.  The school’s mission is to provide a top quality education that allows individual students to progress sequentially and developmentally from prep to year 6 to the best of their ability.  Being close to the Surf Coast and large provincial work locations the schools enrolments are expected to increase over time as commuters move into the area.  Post year 6 students’ move to either Colac or Geelong and often attend up to 10 different secondary schools which creates a difficult transition area.  About 1/3 of students come by bus from outlying areas while the remainder are driven to school.  Community involvement in the school is encouraged and supported and we value the way we work together in the whole community. Parents are involved directly by working in the classrooms with the children and teachers as well as on ‘hot dog’ days, end of term BBQs, fundraising and our “Coffee & Chat with the Principal” mornings.  We have a ‘positive parents’ group established to support the school.  We also have parent co-ordinators for each classroom to assist teachers. The local groups such as Lions Club, Tourism and Traders, Senior Citizens, The local hospital and nursing homes all have involvement with the school.   The School Council and parents and staff are committed to maintaining and improving the school, its facilities and equipment for the benefit of the students. Kind Regards,
